South Plains College offers one of the most comprehensive and affordable welding programs in Texas, tailored to meet the demands of today’s job market. Our Welding Technology program provides students with the skills and knowledge employers are actively seeking. The curriculum covers a wide range of industry-relevant techniques, including MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Core welding, as well as pipe and plate welding. Students also learn essential support skills such as blueprint reading, welding layout and design, safety procedures, welding metallurgy, fabrication and fitting techniques, and inspection and testing processes. Students can choose from multiple educational pathways based on their goals. We offer both an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Welding Technology and a Certificate of Proficiency for those who want to enter the workforce quickly. Each program is designed to provide a strong foundation in welding fundamentals while allowing room for professional growth and career advancement. To make training accessible, South Plains College offers welding courses at three convenient locations: the newly expanded welding facility on our Levelland Campus, the Lubbock Career & Technical Center, and the Plainview Campus. These multiple campus options give students flexibility and allow them to train closer to home while benefiting from modern equipment and expert instruction.

Tools & Resources for Welding Students

Students enrolled in the Welding Technology program at South Plains College are required to purchase specific personal protective equipment and tools to ensure safety and success in hands-on training. This equipment includes items such as welding helmets, gloves, jackets, safety glasses, and basic welding tools. While these items represent an additional cost beyond tuition and fees, they are essential for participation in lab activities and are an investment in your future career.
